Abstract
In transportation service, especially road transportation service, operations are easily affected by external factors like customers' behaviors and road traffic conditions, and error proofing methods have not been well utilized. This lets people rely on individual's attentiveness and makes it difficult to reduce traffic accidents due to human errors. In this paper, errors and error proofing methods in a bus company were collected and summarized, and a method by which persons working in bus companies can easily generate many error proofing solutions based on the information of accident/incident or results of risk assessment was developed. As the results, it was found that about 8 error proofing solutions can be generated in about 15 minutes using the 41 error proofing principles and the supporting tools based on the principles. Although the effectiveness of these principles and application support tools should be verified more deeply, they were highly expected to be useful for promoting error proofing activities in bus companies.
