Abstract
Phosphoglycerides were extracted and separated from silkworm eggs during cold acclimation in the first step for delineating phosphoglyceride changes. Three major spots were detected on the thin layer silica gel plate, and the lipid classes were identified by comparisons with Rf values of authentic standards and by use of some specific spray reagents. Each phosphoglyceride, which was purified chromatographically, showed its typical spectra in infrared spectrophotometry. From these results, it is concluded that the predominant phosphoglyceride in silkworm eggs is phosphatidylcholine (PC), followed by phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylserine (PS). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to verify the common fatty acid classes in these phosphoglycerides. PC, PE and PS contained palmitic acid (C 16:0), stearic acid (C 18:0), oleic acid (C 18:1), linoleic acid (C 18:2) and linolenic acid (C 18:3), as fatty acyl chains, but clear compositional differences were present among the three phosphoglycerides.
