説明

Differences in the pattern of copper ion uptake by Chlorella between living and scalded or metabolic inhibitor treated cells were examined.
(1) Copper ion uptake by Chlorella regularis was not reduced by the pre-treatment of the cells with 1mM dinitrophenol or 10mM NaN3. The scalded cells took up larger amount of copper ion. These results were confirmed by the ESR measurements.
(2) The scalded cells took up copper ion extremely rapidly than the living cells, and the concentration factor of copper ion in the scalded cells was also larger than in the living cells, which showed the higher affinity of copper ion to the scalded cells.
(3) Seventy percent of copper taken up by scalded cells was released by washing with EDTA solution, while, in the case of the living cells, 17_??_19% of copper was released. It was considered from these results that the binding states of copper ion in the scalded cells had weakly coupled ligands and could be easily substituted with EDTA than in the living cells.
(4) The distribution ratio of copper taken up by the scalded cells was 10.7% in the intracellular soluble fraction. These results suggested that the distribution of copper in the scalded Chlorella cells was different from that in the living cells.
(5) The concentration factor of the heavy metal ions in the scalded cells was arranged in the decreasing order: Cu2+_??_Cr3+>Cd2+>Ni2+>Zn2+>Co2+>Mn2+.
(6) Adsorption of several heavy metal ions by dry Chlorella cells showed the high affinity for Cu2+, Pb2+, Cd2+.
