Description

To achieve an efficient dynamic filtration, the rotor should be of such a style that the induced flow sweeps filter cake from filter medium completely. The effect of rotor style on the velocity profiles of liquid flow and the frictional resistance of the rotor in a cylindrical filter chamber were studied without permeation, using several types of rotor.<BR>Rotating a grooved obtuse-blade rotor at high speed remarkably increases tangential, radial and axial velocity components in the boundary layer near the medium, and applies an intensive liquid shear on the medium. The effects on liquid velocity of the pitch l and width a of grooves and the Reynolds number Re can be evaluated from the increase in the ratio K of the tangential velocities of the core and rotor. The ratio K is a function of a dimensionless number (Re.a/l), which provides an approximate prediction of the velocity distribution in the filter chamber. The torque on the blade-type rotor can also be estimated from the calculation of the same operational factors over the range Re>3×105.
