Abstract
A theoretical equation of the minimum fluidization velocity for a mobile bed was developed to include the characteristics of packing spheres and the physical properties of liquids, based on the assumption that the one-dimensional two-phase flow model applies to mobile beds. The value of the apparent friction coefficients in two-phase flow of air-liquid mixtures is much larger than that of the friction coefficients for a conventional solid-gas packed system.
The apparent friction coefficient is expressed as a function of liquid holdups in the bed.
The values of the minimum fluidization velocity calculated by using the theoretical equation were compared with those of the experimental results under several operating conditions. The experimental results can be estimated to be accurate within ±20%.
