Abstract
Mutual solubilities and interfacial tensions were measured at 25°C for seven ternary systems of water-organic compound-acetic acid, in which the organic compound was 1-hexene, 1-octene, methylcyclohexane, ethylcyclohexane, 3-methyl-2-butanone, 2-pentanone or 4-heptanone. Interfacial tensions were correlated using our model for 18 systems, including the previously reported 11 systems. The parameters in the model were expressed by a linear function of the critical molar volume of the organic compound, whose coefficients were classified into three groups of organic compounds such as nonaromatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and ketones. Using these parameters of the linear function, interfacial tensions of ternary systems can be estimated within an average error of 3%.
