Abstract
The convective mixing of highly viscous liquid was investigated in various types of stirred vessels. Liquid used was Newtonian fluid with a viscosity of 30150 poise. Carbon black was used as a tracer to prevent molecular diffusion.<BR>By photographing the state of segregation caused by convection and analyzing the degree of blackness of the developed film with an electro-photometer having a resolving power of 5μm, the mixing pattern peculiar to each of the stirred vessels was analyzed and an analytical equation for the rate of decrease in the scale of unmixed parts was derived from it.
