Description
The recovery of heavy metal ions from contaminated soil was tried using Donnan dialysis. Bentonite was used as the soil. Cd and Pb ions were used as the heavy metal ions. Feed and recovery solutions were countercurrently fed through two cells separated by a cation exchange membrane (Selemion CMV). Experiments were carried out for the aqueous and the slurry feeds.<br>The changes of metal ion concentrations in the feed and recovery solution were calculated by taking into consideration the unsteady-state mass balance based on Nernst-Planck equation, liquid film mass transfer for both sides of the membrane and adsorption rate in the soil. The possibility of heavy metal recovery from the soil was discussed. The calculated results approximately agreed with the experimental results.
