Abstract

This paper describes the basic principle of sol-gel science and technology for the molecular-design of the metal alkoxides to prepare high-performance powders and ceramics. First of all, characteristics of metal alkoxides are described to explain the control methods of the alkoxides for high-performance powders and ceramics. Then some examples of powder preparation and smart sintering from alkoxide-derived molecular-designed precursor powder for high-performance ceramics are exhibited to show the usefulness of the alkoxide-derived molecular-designed precursor powders.
