Abstract

Multimedia applications are now used in a wide variety of fields such as medical treatment and social welfare. This paper proposes a communication tool for handicapped or bedridden patients who cannot use a keyboard. This tool enables a person to write and send E-mail using head swing operation based on our previously proposed object-tracking method. In addition, to simplify the correction of the camera angle, we introduce an effective camera calibration procedure that effectively utilizes the object-tracking method. Experimental results show that calibration can be completed in about 30 seconds by the proposed procedure.
