Abstract

Efficient representations of 3-D object shape and its texture data have attracted wide attention for transmission of computer graphics data and for interactive design in manufacturing. Polygonal mesh data which consist of connectivity information, geometry data and texture data are often used for representing 3-D object in many applications. In this paper we propose a compression method of polygonal mesh data by structuring its geometry and textyure data on triangular lattice with extended node. The structured geometry and texture data are compressed using 2-D image coding method. Experimental results applying new method to polygonal mesh data show the proposed method performs efficiently.
