Description
To improve read/write characteristics of Ba ferrite perpendicular magnetic recording media with Pt underlayers, Ta was added in Pt underlayers. The grain size of Ba ferrite layers were decreased by using Pt-Ta underlayers. H_<C⊥> H_<C//> and K_⊥ of Ba ferrite layers increased by Ta addition. D_<50> of 180 kFRPI was attained in BaM/Pt-Ta disk. The read/write characteristics of Ba ferrite disks were improved by using Pt-Ta underlayers.
