Abstract
We propose a new technique as a dew condensation water detection method in optical joint boxes used for connection of OPGWs (OPtical Ground Wires) using Fresnel reflectivity change between refractive indices of air and water at an optical fiber end. Using with an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), the method can be operated for detection to a long span fiber line without electric power supplies. In this paper, also with the basic detection principle, experimental results of dew condensation water detection in a pseudo joint box are described.
