Abstract

Layered video multicast can provide each receiving client with video streams of appropriate quality acceptable to his network bandwidth and available CPU resources. In this paper, we propose "Double Down technique" which reduce the influence of a lot of packet losses due to heavy congestion by choosing the optimum layer corresponding to the available network bandwidth. Furthermore, we propose a "Cooperative control" method for receiving several concurrent streams in layered video multicasting. This method is based on the priority of each stream and recipient's visual impression, and seems effective in some application such as remote lecturing and so on.
