Description
Crystalline silk fibroin changed into an amorphous state when it was abrased with a file. When shear stress caused by the file was applied to the silk fibroin specimen consisting of amorphous and crystalline regions and when the mechanical force was gradually increased, the hydrogen bonds which initially connected the poly-peptide chains and thereafter the main-chains were ruptured randomly. As silk fibroin crystals became fine, the formation of amorphous regions in silk fibroin was enhanced.
