Abstract

In this experiment, reciprocal effects of GA treatment and several temperature regimes on the growth of mulberry leaves were studied, and the following results were obtained:
It was demonstrated that the effect of the GA treatment on mulberry growth was more remarkable under conditions of low soil temperature than in the case of high soil temperature.
From the results of previous reports (Ohnishi, 1964, 1965) and the present report, it appears that the effect of the GA treatment becomes more remarkable under conditions suboptimal for growth, and that GA acts as though it compensates for such unfavorable conditions. Furthermore, the content of water in the plant is increased by the GA treatment. It seems that GA acts as one of the promoting factors for leaf emergence and growth of the shoots.
