Since the determination of the grade of silk lots is only based on the lowest values among the items of inspection, the quality characteristics fluctuate even in lots of the same grade. In this paper, attempts were made to represent these characteristics. First, the method of multiple regression analysis was used to determine the overall index of quality of raw silk. As a result, an evaluation function of quality is proposed to compensate for the shortcomings of the current inspection With this function, a more adequated index of the quality of raw silk can be obtained. Next, as a result of the principal component analysis of the data of the inspection, it was shown that component 1 can evaluate the quality of raw silk. Also the difference between the two indexes is discussed.
