Abstract

We studied spinning lubricants which on considered to exhibit on antistatic effect, as well as the methods of application of such lubricants to prevent problems caused by static electricity generated during draft-cut spinning of silk tow. We obtained the following results:
1) Two types of lubricants with a low frictional electric charge were identified from among the lubricants obtained by mixing an anionic and a non-ionic surfactant. The degummed and reeled tow lubricated with Sofmin R-6 (Miyoshi Yushi Co.) showed on adequate fiber dispersal and softness. Such tow was easy to draft-cut and the slivers were of superior quality.
2) A lubricant concentration of 3.0% or higher was necessary for contact application. In the dipping method, the problem of static electricity was not encountered during draft-cut spinning because the lubricant adhered uniformly and in sufficient quantity.
3) The amount of lubricant attached on the degummed and reeled tow could be estimated based on the amount extracted with ethyl alcohol in 24 hours and after subtracting about 0.7-0.9%.
4) The fabric prepared using the spun yarn made from the silk tow was found to retain the original fiber structure of silk.
