Description

Fuji silk fabrics treated with a glyoxal resin were characterized before and after wet cleaning and drying (30 times wet cleaning by hand using a neutral detergent, each followed by drying in the shade). The rate of adhered resin was slighly reduced after the wet cleaning and drying. The mechanical properties such as thickness, flex rigidity and water absorbency were increased, whereas tensile strength, flex abrasion resistance, crease resistance and light fastness were decreased in both of the untreated and resin-treated fabrics. Some physical parameters reflecting the fabric hand were determined; the tensile (LT), shearing and compressive (RC) properties as well as thickness were augmented, but tensile (RT) and compressive (WC) properties as well as weight were decreased by the wet cleaning and dyring. Also the wet cleaning and drying of the treated fabrics improved KOSHI and HARI (properties related to stiffness) but rather disgraced SHINAYAKASA (flexibility with soft feeling) etc. of the fabrics
