Abstract

As a series of study on pathogenicity of mulberry anthracnose fungi (2), 26 isolates of the anthracnose fungi from 15 plants were examined for the pathogenicity using the leaves (injured or intact) detached from 3 mulberry species. When the mycelial colony of each fungus was used as inoculum, most isolates exhibited lesions on the injured mulberry leaves. On the other hand, inoculation of the conidial suspension to the intact and injured mulberry leaves, Colletotrichum dematium isolated from mulberry showed strong pathogenicity. Moreover, detailed comparison between isolates belonging to C. dematium revealed that only isolates from mulberry made strong lesions, while other isolates did only to some extent, on the detached mulberry leaves. We suggest that the isolates from mulberry only have a specific pathogenicity to mulberry.
