Description

The recessive mutant “mottled translucent of Var” (symbol ov) was found as a spontaneous phenomenon in a European race, Var. The ov gene was shown to be linked with brown-4 (b-4) mapped at 21.9 position of the twentieth linkage group. Another mottled translucent mutation was isolated from a hybrid stock of m60, in which two different translucent genes, os and oc, are already known to be co-existed. Mating experiment revealed that the mottled translucent gene of m60 stock was an allele of ov and the gene received the symbol ovp. The locus of ov gene was determined to be 15.2 position of the twentieth linkage group through a three-point experiment involving Df-t, b-4 and ov.
