Abstract

Size of wing discs of fl mutant compared with normal wing discs did not increase during the fifth larval instar. Fewer mitoses were observed in fl wing discs than in normal ones during the fifth larval instar. The structure of the wing porches and the tracheole migration were not clear. Each cell- organizing wing disc was cytologically normal. Evagination, flattening and elongation of the basal regions of the wing discs and the pupal cuticle deposition were the same as those observed in normal discs. Necrosis and destruction of cellular organel a were not observed. Some evaginated wing sticks had scales when observed after adult eclosion. Three synthesized peptides which were not synthesized in normal wing discs were detected by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. It is suggested that fl mutant defects did not result from individual cell defects, but from defects in total tissue organization.
