Although some eggs ((3n×2n)eggs) oviposited by a triploid female crossed with a normal male were fertilized, none of the fertilized eggs hatched out. However a few parthenogenetic eggs from triploid oocytes were able to hatch. When the inseminated (3n×2n) eggs were treated immediately after oviposition with hot water, a few treated eggs hatched out.
A few eggs produced by a triploid female showed a normal function, and death of the (3n×2n) egg was attributed embryonic factors.
The color of the eggs ovipolited by a triploid female(+re/+re/re) and (+/re/re) crossed with a diploid male (re/re) segreted with a ratio of 5 normal pigmented eggs to 1 red egg. Based on the cytological observation, the embryos in the (3n×2n)eggs were heteroploid (about 70 chromosomes)., the histological observation of the embryogenesis of (3n×2n) eggs, revealed of the presence of severe abnormalities and the, eggs eventuelly died during subsequent embryonic development.
On the basis of these results, we suggested that death by abnormal embryogensis in the (3n×2n) eggs may be ascribed to heteroploidy.
