Ppoperties of sericin-fixed silk habutae and degummed silk habutae have been investigated by the absorption of hydrochloric acid as a model compound for evaluating the adsoption of acid dyes, dye-absorption rate, color fastness, standard affinity of Acid red 18, and for amino-acid analysis. The degummed silk habutae adsorbed more dyetsuffs than the sericin-fixed silk habutae, while at higher temperatures raw silk habutae adsorbed more dyes than degummed silk habutae. A similar result was obtained when hydrochloric acid was used as a model compound to investigate the adsoption of acid dyes in silk dyeing. The amino-acid analysis of the sericin-fixed silk yarn showed that basic amino-acids, such as, lysine, histidine, and arginine, react dialdehde starch in the sricin-fixing process. In the standard affinity of acid red 18 and the fastness against ultraviolet rays and rubbing, no significant difference was observed between the sericin-fixed silk hab utae and the degummed silk habutae. The coloring of dyed habutae differed between the sericin-fixed ones and the degummed ones; the average color difference being 15.8.
