The reduction of frictional resistance of the raw silk with different characteristics relating to the sericin content and fineness after fatty acid & amide treatments was investigated. The these type of raw silk was treated with 6 kinds of fatty acids, 5 kinds of fatty acid amides (C12-C22) and anionic surface active agents in ethyl alcohol. The static frictional coefficient of the raw silk was decreased by the fatty acid treatment. The decrease associated with the lauric acid (C12) and myristic acid (C14) treatment for the thick size thread as well as the fatty acid amide treatment was pronounced. Especially 1% lauramide (C12) treatment exerted a remarkable effect in the case of the thick size thread. These tendencies were observed in the Rz (average roughness of ten points) and Rmax (range of maximum beight) results. These type of raw silk treated with lauric acid or lauramide was hardly abraded by the friction.
