説明

1. The biochemical reaction of sweet potato induced by the penetration of Ceratostomella fimbriata was studied.
2. In the sound part next to the injured, the respiration amount in 72 hrs. after penetration, was increased more than twice as much as that of control then decreased gradually. The increase of respiration caused by DNP addition was studied. The rate of the respiratory increase in the sound part by DNP addition seemed to be in inverse proportion to that of the respiratory increase caused by the penetration of Ceratostomella fimbriata. The fact presented one evidence that ADP production had been in an increased rate in the sound part of the rotten sweet potato.
3. In the sound part next to the injured, inorganic phosphate decreased, while acid-soluble organic phosphate increased; the acid-soluble nitrogenous fraction (such as amino acid) decreased, while the acid-insoluble nitrogenous fraction (such as protein) was increased. Thus it was assumed that the anabolic system had been activated in some degree. On the other hand, during 48_??_72 hrs. after penetration the increase of inorganic phosphate was observed. The fact is explained by the assumption that the respiration uncoupled with phosphorylation occurred, in the sound part.
4. The resistance of sweet potato to Ca fimbriata was discussed in relation to the activation of metabolism of sweet potato caused by Ceratostomella fimbriata infection.
The authors wish to express their thanks to Professor Y. SUMIKI and Professor S. FUNAHASHI of University of Tokyo for their advices and encouragement.
