Description

Two-color harmony of 102 pairs of colors was studied by means of Scheffé's paired comparison technique. 207 subjects compared each 50 pairs of two-color samples to evaluate the harmony of the given samples by 5-points rating method. The harmony scores of total 10, 302 two-color pairs proved statistically different and to be valid for harmony appraisal. Moon-Spencer's color harmony rating method was assumed to be insufficient for practical use. An appraisal formula of two-color harmony was worked up by the analysis of multiple-regression. Areas of two-color harmony were calculated according to the obtained formula (3. 8) for 9, 890 color pairs. Well harmonized color pairs were concluded to have the computed rating scores of over 0.40, which enabled to draw out a two color harmony choosing diagram on the hue difference-chroma difference or hue difference-value difference planes.
