Abstract
This paper deals with an experimental study for early control of the quality of concrete by estimating the 28-day strength. In the experiment, the acceleration strength test was applied, then accelerated strength (σa) and 28-day strength (σ28) were obtained relative to various concrete. The accelerated curing method consist of pre-curing the concrete for a 3 hour period, hot water (at 60±2°C) curing treatment for 18 hours and a post-curing treatment for 3 hours.
Summary of Results.
1) Comparisons of the compressive strength of prismatic specimens (10×10×20cm) and that of cylinders (φ10×20cm) of concrete was carried out and it became clear that the prismatic specimen was the more effective of the two for the concrete acceleration strength test.[Fig.2, Eq.(1)]
2) The relationship between the 28-day strength and accelerated strength was showed by an approximate equation curve in spite of the following differences of materials and conditions of the concrete.[Fig.6, Eq.(5)]
(1) Kind of coarse aggregate (2) Maximum size of coarse aggregate (3) Using or not using a waterreducing agent (4) Slump value of 2 to 8 cm (5) Adopting or not adopting wet screening
3) The relationship between the 28-day strength and accelerated strength was influenced by the following material and conditions of the concrete.[Fig.7]
(1) High slump value (2) Brand of cement (3) Low temperature in initial curing period
4) A strong mutual relationship was observed between the rate of the accelerated strengh (σa/σ28) and unit cement weight.[Fig.8, Eq.(6)]
