Description
In the design of a settling basin it has hitherts been considered as a matter of course that water pass (sand settling) and sand flush are carried out separately. Now the author proposes in this paper a theory of design for carrying out these operations together at the same time.
We make water pass correspond to ordinary flow and sand flush to jet flow, and introduce reverse slope in the inlet to extending transition part. Then a weir is apparently set up on the entrance of sand settling duct, and the separation into ordinary flow and jet flow is realized on the weir. The system for carrying out the pass and flush at the same time is nothing but this special water division system.
This paper establishes simultaneous equations for composing this system and explains the fundamental characteristics of this system, indicating the method of solution of the equations along with the method for designing the system.
The effectiveness of this theory was made sure by hydraulic model test.
