In this paper, the author divised a siphon spillway, (for the existing spillway of overflow type, there is the fear that a vinyl sheet placed on a growing vat in the outflow will leak out from the vat), and investigated its various applications.<BR>The results obtained are summerized as follows:<BR>(1) A siphon spillway consisting of a PVC pipe and an elbow is installed on a partition in the vat, with a diameter=25 or 20mm, downstream leg length=21-25cm, slope angle=45°, in a solutiondelivery= 15-17l/min.<BR>(2) An air vent (diameter≥4mm) opened vertically in the pipe wall of an upstream leg serves well as a siphon breaker.The hight of the liquid surface should be equal to crest level when the action of the siphon stopped.<BR>(3) The relations between the overflow depth or discharge and elapsed time on outflow from the circular weir and siphon are derived, and the discharge coefficients for these relations are determined respectively.<BR>(4) There is no essential difference between the spillway of the siphon type and that of the overflow type in exchanging the remaining solutions in the vat for a fresh supply.<BR>(5) The leak from the vat is stopped by the siphon spillway.For unwatering the vat, the shallow sump of this method for the inlet of the elongated upstream leg can be used in a practical system.
