抄録

This study was aimed at clarifying shrinkage behavior on the surface soil of paddy fields and the relationships between this shrinkage behavior and the engineering properties.<BR>Tests were conducted with the surface soil of general clayey paddy fields in Japan.<BR>Results are as follow:-<BR>1. The paste under surface soil puddling have flow sinking without horizontal shrinkage directly after staring the test, normal shrinkage with horizontal and vertical shrinkage and residual shrinkage with adecrease in water content.<BR>2. Through Wh (the water content of starting point in horizontal shrinkage) coincided with LL and the water content of starting point in residual shrinkage coincided with PL on the paste under surface soil puddling, the rerationships between shrinkage behavior and consistency were clarified.<BR>3. Through the relationship between the cone bearing index and the water content on the surface soil of paddy field, it was clarified that the cone bearing index intensified in wh with a decrease in water content.<BR>4. The crack formation during shrinkage on the surface soil of paddy field is closely related to the starting point in horizontal shrinkage.But if the soil structure develops, the shrinkage cracks will form at the point which is somewhat drier than the starting point in horizontal shrinkage.
