Gravitational creep folds in the Izumi Group of the Izumi Mountains, southwest Japan.

Abstract

Because of a high ductility contrast between sandstone and mudstone in the uppermost Cretaceous Izumi Group, gravitational force has led to the development of symmetric and asymmetric folds in beds within a few meters below the ground surface in many quarry scars . These gravitational creep folds has taken place during two or three decades after excavation.
