Abstract

In order to predict landsliding and to prevent landslide hazard, it is necessary first to understand the distribution, size and morphology of landslide topography, because that most of recent landslides occur in old landslide areas. The Hokkaido Landslide Database (HL-BASE), which comprises the data of 12, 856 landslide topography such as location, scarp geology, bedrock geology, direction of landsliding and size, was constructed. The data were analyzed with graphic and statistic treatment softwares. Consequently, we have obtained the characteristics of distribution, size and morphology of landslide topography in Hokkaido, and the relationships between these features and geologic factors. In addition, we have emphasized the necessity for recognizing landslide topography in terms of the designated landslide areas and recent landslide damages.
