Abstract

Since 1980 in China, due to the development of computer-based technologies, many new information elements concerning information retrieval and information handling have been introduced to the traditional library science. These new information elements are highly emphasized in library science education in universities and colleges, and the concept of Information is noticed as one key point to library science education. Entering 1990's, rapid variation in social economy shows the necessity of introducing knowledge on economics to the library science education for the purpose of cultivating professions satisfying the progressing social needs. For this reason, some new courses were established, and the curriculums on library science education were rearranged greatly in universities and colleges. This paper shows the reformation of library and information science education in China by presenting two cases taken placed in Beijing University and Eastern China Teacher's College.
