  • The auditory tau and kappa effects for voiced stop consonants

説明

Two experiments were carried out, using the voiced stop consonants /b/ and /d/, in order to investigate the auditory tau effect (Experiment 1) and the kappa effect (Experiment 2). Nine undergraduate students participated as subjects in Experiment 1 and seven in Experiment 2. As the results, the auditory tau and kappa effects were observed in the phonetic judgment of voiced stop consonants. The effects were observed more clearly for the /be/-/de/ series than for the /de/-/be/ series. These findings confirmed the interaction between temporal interval and phonetic perception. It was suggested that the interaction could be explained on the basis of the integration of forward and backward context effects, and also that the auditory tau and kappa effects occur at a primary level of auditory information processing.
