Description
Chromatic dispersion in optical fibers is one of the most important parameters that determine the performance of transmission system. Especially, in the case of recent high-bit-rate and long-haul transmission systems, it is necessary to keep precisely track of the dispersion characteristics of fibers. And the total dispersion of system has to be close to zero by compensating the fiber dispersion, because the dispersion tolerance is very small in such high-bit-rate systems.<br> Firstly in this document, the author explains the basics of chromatic dispersion in fibers and its characteristics of typical fibers. Inthe next, the principle of dispersion compensation techniques and their trends are introduced.
