Abstract
In order to cope with requirements of lower fuel consumption and higher performance,the high compression ratio engine and the turbocharged downsizing engine have been developed. However,the demand voltage of spark plug is increased because the cylinder pressure at the spark timing is increased with such engines. To reduce the demand voltage, a new ignition system which has the high voltage resistance Zener diode is developed. This paper describes that this system contributes to reduce the demand voltage. The maximum effect is 3.5kV when the engine is operated at 2800rpm, 26bar of the break mean effective pressure.
