Abstract

The 3.0L diesel engine friction loss was reduced by the piston ring tension reduction, the cylinder bore and the piston roughness reduction, the width reduction and the MoS2 coating of the crank bearings, the camshaft needle bearings. The dummy head machining prevented the worsening of the LOC and the blow-by gas by the piston ring tension reduction. The MoS2 shot peening that prevented the scuff by the low roughness cylinder bore and piston skirt was demonstrated for the first time. And the dimples that reduced the friction loss of the piston ring was demonstrated for the first time.
