Description

In this study, artificial zeolite was synthesized from diatomaceous earth from the Noto region in Japan by doing alkali and aluminate acid treatment. Artificial zeolite was used for the experiments as a carbon dioxide absorbent. By the X-ray diffraction analysis, it was found that the artificial zeolite had the crystal structure of the Philip type. In the absorption experiment, the amount of zeolite which is an absorbent was made variable. Moreover, the temperature of the gas, humidity and flow velocity were made variable. And those influences exerted on the absorption characteristics were clarified as follows ; (1) As the quantity of zeolite increases, the absorbed quantity of carbon dioxide increases. (2) As the humidity of the gas and temperature are lowered, the absorbed quantity of carbon dioxide increases, and the concentration of carbon dioxide lowers as that result. (3) The concentration is lower as the gas flow velocity is lowered, but the absorbed quantity of carbon dioxide increases as the gas flow velocity becomes fast. The validity of the artificial zeolite as carbon dioxide absorbent became experimentally clear.
