Description

It is important to consider human activity-induced changes in atmospheric environments for maintaining the good health conditions of trees in the forests. Collaborators and the author have studied the tree responses to elevated ozone and CO2. The overviews of these studies are presented in this review. The mechanisms of the photosynthetic response, risk assessment of the ozone impact based on an experimental study, and canopy level photosynthetic response with a free-air ozone fumigation experiment are described as the ozone effects on trees. Regarding the elevated CO2 effects, the growth and photosynthetic responses of the hybrid larch F1, a promising afforestation tree species, and combined effects of the ozone and elevated CO2 are presented.
