The behavior of a vortex ring around a density interface is complicated because of the gravity effect. In this paper, a behavior of a vortex ring impinging on the density interface from below is visualized by means of fluorescene dye and neutral liquid bubbles. When the vortex ring begins to sink again into the lower layer due to negative buoyancy, doubly piled vortices of the opposite circulation to the original vortex ring are formed below and around it and they play an influential role on mixing. Comparing the kinetic energy of vortex rings with the increased potential energy due to the induced mixing, it is found that about 60-70% of the original kinetic energy is changed to the potential energy.
