Description
The fibrous filler in the molded parts lies generally in same direction to a certain extent. This phenomenon easily occurs in the injection molding of the recently developed Bulk Molding Compound (BMC), which is a serious problem in applying this high-productive molding method. So, in order to clarify the fiber orientation phenomenon in injection molding of BMC, the effects of molding conditions and mold geometry on the fiber orientation were investigated, kneading the optical fiber composed of lead compound and taking the X-ray photograph of molded parts. Different fiber orientations occur in three regions in the molded parts; fiber lies coaxially in the vicinity of gate, perpendicular to the direction of injection and parallel to the cavity wall opposite to gate. The coaxial fiber orientation in the vicinity of gate becomes ellipse whose major axis coincides with the direction of injection at low mold temperature.
