Description
We report a case of a 62-year-old man diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer with hepatic metastasis. He was treated by combined chemotherapy of S-1 (tegafur, gimeracil, oteracil potassium) and gemcitabine (GEM) (S-1: 80mg/body/day, administered orally for 14 days, and GEM: 1200mg/body, administrated on days 8 and 15 of each course, and this course was repeated every 21 days). After 6 courses, the patient was admitted to our hospital with upper abdominal pain and fever up. In the examination, the pancreatic head cancer had penetrated into the duodenal lumen, probably because of the rapid necrosis of the tumor. Gastrojejunostomy was performed and the patient recovered. Combined chemotherapy with S-1 and GEM is one of the promising treatments for pancreatic cancer; however, complications such as duodenal penetration by the acute necrotic response should be taken into consideration when this type of chemotherapy is used.<br>
