Description
In order to evaluate disability among patients with ataxia, this study deals with coordinated mechanism of trunk separately from that of legs. The deflection of the center of gravity in a seated posture was compared with that in a standing position, using 13 patients with ataxia and 10 healthy objects. The actual value of the deflection of the center of gravity in a seated posture showed a significant difference among self-walking patients, patients who walk with a stick, and those cannot walk by themselves. With respect to that of the deflection of the center of gravity in a standing posture, a difference was seen in self-walking patients and patients who walk with a stick. With the relative value of the deflection of the center of gravity in a standing posture to that in a seated posture, both patients showing an extremelylower stability and those showing larger deflection than healthy objects were observed. Those results revealed that the coordinated mechanism of trunk functions separately from that of legs.
