Abstract

Properties of nonlinear optical organic crystals, including processability, linear and non-linear optical properties, are reviewed, considering their applicabilities to practical waveguid-ing SHG devices. Although highly nonlinear organic crystals will no doubt allow us to obtain ex-tremely high conversion efficiencies in configurations that are much simpler than those currently employed with inorganic crystals, there are many problems that must be solved before they be-come truly usable in practical devices. Sophisticated crystal growth technologies and microfab-rication techniques should be developed.
