Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine role stress of special needs education coordinators, as well as factors affecting the coordinators. The participants, elementary and junior high school teachers (N=376) who concurrently were special needs education coordinators, completed a questionnaire on (a) role stress, (b) personal information, (c) attributes of their school, (d) their feeling about the organizational climate of their school, and (e) support that they received in the school. The analysis revealed that the following factors were related to higher role stress scores: young age, scant experience, being in charge of an ordinary class, and working in a large school. On the other hand, factors related to lower scores included that the coordinator was in charge of a special needs class, was supported by the principal and coworkers, and felt that the organizational climate was good.
