Description
The purpose of the present study was to improve the skills involved in arranging school things and dressing of a boy with autism who was enrolled in the second grade of an elementary school for pupils with special needs, and who did not engage in these behaviors. In order to identify problem areas, the process of putting on the school uniform was broken down into small steps and analyzed in detail. The analysis suggested that the child's behavior was influenced and interrupted by both visual and auditory stimulation in the classroom and also by the instructors' support methods. During the intervention, the child came to school late so that visual and auditory stimulation could be controlled. Then, after arriving at school, the boy practiced the skills. Furthermore, process cards and picture books were used to supplement the training and enable the behavior to be completed spontaneously. Following this training, the child engaged in the necessary skills.
