Description
A simple and rapid determination of boron in ferro-boron has been investigated. By application of so-called boron-barium tartrate method for precipitation of boron with tartaric acid and barium chloride, a method of gravimetric determination of boron was established. The analytical procedure is as follows:<BR>The sample (0.5g) is fused with Na2O2 and it is taken up in warm water. The solution is filtered and a part of filtrate is tested (25 ml is taken up after the filtrate is made up to 250 ml with water), it is made slightly acid with HC1, 10 ml 20% NH4Cl, 10 ml 5% tartaric acid solution, and 10 ml 5% BaCl2 are added, then NH4OH(1+1) is added to pH 8.69.2. The mixture is cooled to below 20°C, allowed to stand for 10 min to complete the precipitation. The precipitate is filtered, washed 10 times, heated at 700800°C and weighed to calculate the boron by the following equation. The time required was 60 min. Boron% = (weight (g) of precipitate × 2.85)/weight (g) of sample.
