Abstract

The present official method of quantitative estimation of cyanamide nitrogen in calcium cyanamide is investigated and found-(1). There are differences in time of shaking to give the maximum value by the difference of samples and it is not justifiable to fix the time of shaking uniformly to two I: ours, (2). The temperature of extracting solution should be kept between 1025°C.(3). The present official method gives inaccurate values in the presence of melamine due to the formation of co-precipitate. (4). The suitable amount of extract is 100150cc. A method described in this experiment consists of extracting the sample with water containing alkaline silver nitrate to obtain extract of cyanamide which is precipitated out at once as silver cyanamide to be taken out of the system and the effect of time of extraction is avoided by, this mean. The values obtained from this method are 0.10.2%. higher in comparison with the other method. From the above reasons, the result of this method is considered to be more accurate than the other methods. Only 15 minutes or so is required in this process in comparison with the requirement of 2 hours and 30 minutes in the other methods.
