Abstract

A rapid method of the polarographic determination of Mn in ferromanganese and manganese slag has been examined, and the analysis has been tried on practical samples. pH values, maximum suppressive agents, interfering ions, etc. have Leen investigated in the quantitative determination of Mn (III) by the use of the pyrophosphate supporting electrolyte proposed by Kolthoff, et al.; and it was found that Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, Pb, etc. in 0.3 M pyrophosphate showed no disturbing effect, and gave a definite polarographic wave. A good proportional relationship was shown within the pH range of 2.53.4 and about 50 mg Mn/100 ml. The interference of Fe became negligible by increasing the pH value, but Cl, Cr, V, etc. showed a disturbing effect on the Mn wave.
